Free Family Representation & Advocacy Project (FFRAP)

We are a charity dedicated to LIPs (litigants in person - individuals without a lawyer) in the Family Court in England & Wales, and we are committed to assisting LIPs through the provision of free family law advice and representation.

We provide a nationwide service - please contact us if you need help at court be it for an in-person hearing or a remote / online hearing. We cover both formats. Our services are free and our lawyers will provide advice, representation, or support for free because we are a charity committed to access to legal services and justice.

Please check our LIP Resources section at the top of this page. Our services of providing a lawyer for a hearing(s) is free to all LIPs.

Our Mission

The Free Family Representation & Advocacy Project (FFRAP) seeks to assist people through the provision of free family legal advice, representation or support on the day at the family court. We do this through our volunteers who range from trainee solicitors to experienced solicitors and barristers. All volunteers are supervised by a family law solicitor.

We also provide a telephone service to assist those without a lawyer in a family court during Covid-19.

Remote Hearing feedback from LIPs:

Zahra was very helpful and I am grateful she was able to support me.

I cannot express my gratitude for you helping today at my hearing. Mr Hunt was just brilliant and Ms Farhana, you, taking time to check that everything was ok. Once again thanks [sic] you very much. Mr Hunt will explain everything and hopefully you will be helping represent me to my next hearing. Again THANKS [sic] YOU.

I feel I have received more thorough representation at this hearing than some of the representation I have paid for in the past. So I am extremely grateful to both of you [Jonathon] for all your help and support.

I was so hopeless at this situation but after talking to Jack I can see a bit of sun light coming through my window.

You have provided so much in assisting my case and same as Ms Olivia. I cannot be more grateful for your charity.

I would truly be thankful if you could find me support for the next hearing. Sophia truly helped my momentum!

Our Impact: Pre-Covid

We were located at one court. We are growing our work to assist as many people as possible. We are passionate about and committed to providing access to legal services and justice.

If your local court does not have any support provision, please contact us to let us know.

In the interim, we are developing accessible materials to help people without a lawyer (known as a Litigant in Person - LIP) during their court journey. If you are a LIP, please return to check this website regularly for updates.
